Introduction to Songwriting

Let’s write some songs!

This course covers the essentials of songwriting craft: lyrics, melody, common chord progressions, song form, and how these elements work together to communicate meaning.

We will listen to songs from many styles and eras and discuss what makes them effective and memorable.  Students will also have the opportunity to share their own songs with the class and receive constructive feedback.

The class is open to songwriters of all abilities, ages 16 and up, who have a basic understanding of music theory and can accompany themselves while performing a song on any instrument.

The course will be held on Mondays from 6:30 to 8:00 beginning April 27th and will be limited to six students.  Each student will receive a copy of "Beginning Songwriting" by Andrea Stolpe (Berklee Press) for study at home.  There is no charge for this course.
